SWAN LAKE

VILLAGE

MARKHAM

Brief History

Swan Lake Village is an Active Lifestyle Community that grew from 108 homes in 1997 to 649 upon completion in 2010.

Construction began in 1996. The first resident moved in on January 27 1997 with the official opening being held in May. By September there were 100 residents.

The first condominium corporation was registered on July 11, 1997 and by 2000, 5 additional phases had been registered, including two  apartment buildings. By 2010 the last home was occupied. In 2012, nine of the original phases (or corporations) were amalgamated into one new corporation (York Regional Standard Condominium Corporation 1217). The other 3 phases (or corporations) are YRCC 921 (90 apartment units), YRCC 933 (90 apartment units) and YRSCC 1032 (44 townhouse units).

Swan Lake is an exclusive gated condominium community in a peaceful setting overlooking picturesque Swan Lake. The development now includes a mixture of bungalows, one and two-story houses and four, 4-story apartments buildings - all residences (homes and buildings) are condominium units.

This unique “adult lifestyle” community is geared to residents who want to enjoy the benefits of condo living within a vibrant community of like-minded neighbours. The community caters to "empty-nesters" and provides 24 hour security. The exterior maintenance and repair of the condo units is managed by each of the four condo corporations.  The grounds and other buildings and amenities are managed by the Village Amenities Committee (VAC).  Unit owners pay monthly maintenance fees to cover all these costs which include snow removal, grass cutting and ongoing maintenance and repairs.

Swan Lake Village is located close to 16th Avenue and 9th Line in Markham and adjacent to Swan Lake Park with many walking trails. It is minutes from shops and services along Main Street Markham, a beautiful heritage district. The village is also close to Highway 407 with easy access to the airport. The location is shown on the map but access is limited to residents and prospective buyers accompanied by their agents.

The Village has a variety of home styles as well as apartments (the Boardwalk Collection)

The Village was built in a number of phases and each phase has a distinctive style of homes.  The styles and Boardwalk Collection apartments are shown below each with a selection of photographs to illustrate them.

The initial construction featured bungalows (some with lofts)  with a mix of brick and wood exterior - often referred to as "west coast style". Both detached and townhouse styles were built. Sizes range from just under 1000 square feet to over 2000  square feet.

The majority of the next type are 2-story homes also with a brick and wood exterior. All of this type are townhouse style. Living areas are between 1500 square feet to over 2000 square feet with lofts. There are a few 3-storey homes in this style with just over 2500 square feet of living space.

The next type are also 2-story townhomes with a brick and wood exterior. All of this type are townhouse style. Living areas are between 1000 and 2000 square feet.
